What is a browser based interactive session?
Using a link that we email to you or the one on our home page, you can connect to our server through your web browser. You will be prompted to allow a small download that will allow us to interact with your computer. After you accept each stage, we will be able to view your computer, take control of it and/or transfer needed files. We can solve many problems this way, saving both the time and cost of a site visit. No special software installation is required. This type of session must be initiated by you and can not be initiated from the outside.
What type of businesses do you service?
Our clients include many types of businesses including accounting firms, attorneys, chemical companies, medical and dental offices, real estate firms, health clubs and more.
What is a firewall and why do I need one?
A firewall is a device (usually hardware) that separates two networks. It controls what connections can be made between them and can also control the data that passes between them. It would typically be used to isolate your system from the internet to help prevent intrusions.
I have virus protection on my server. Do I still need it on every computer?
Yes. An antivirus program on the server can only inspect the data that comes through it. There are many other avenues that a virus can enter a computer, so each machine needs to have an antivirus program installed.
How often do I need to update my virus protection?
Virus protection programs identify viruses mostly by their signature and therefore must keep an up-to-date list of signatures. Since there constantly new viruses being released the list must be updated at least once each week. Most virus protection programs have an automatic updating feature.
I want to be able to use my laptop both at home and at the office. Can I use a wireless network so I don't need to connect cables?
Yes, although the data transfer rate is slower than a wired connection. The wireless connection must also be configured properly in order to maintain the security of your system. If not configured properly, anyone in the area with a wireless connection will have full access to your network.
Why do I need to back up my data? Aren't computers and hard drives much more reliable than they used to be?
It is true that equipment itself is much less prone to data loss. Much of your data is irreplaceable and can be damaged or destroyed in several ways. Including accidental or intentional deletion, fire, flood, accidental or intentional physical damage.
What areas do you service?
We service northern and central New Jersey.
I have offices in two different cities. Can they be connected together?
Sure. There are several methods of doing this. If both offices have (or can be serviced by) a high speed internet connection like DSL or cable, we would probably use a VPN.
What is a VPN?
VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It is a method of using the internet to connect networks in different locations almost as if they were in the same location while protecting your information from any prying eyes on the internet.
